Lesson #04 – How to wipe your baby’s bottom during diaper changes

Parents want their baby’s bottom to always be clean.
At the time of performing a diaper change, wipe your baby’s bottom to completely remove all urine and stool in order to prevent skin problems. We will now introduce to you a basic way to wipe a baby’s bottom.

Note: Use purified cotton for the genitals and anus.

For a Girl

Lay down your baby and open her legs wide to make a V shape so that her vaginal lips can be seen clearly. Wipe the area between her thighs from front (belly) to back (bottom). If bacteria are transferred into her vagina or urethra, it may cause an infection. Therefore, be careful not to transfer urine or stool into her vagina and urethra.

Urine

Wipe the area from front to back several times and also wipe both sides of her vaginal lips.

Stool

On a front-to-back basis, start wiping from places with less stool. Since stool can easily get between the vaginal lips, open her vaginal lips with one hand and wipe the area carefully with the other hand.

For a Boy

In basically the same way as for a girl, start wiping from places with less urine and stool to places with more urine and stool. If bacteria are transferred into his urethra, it may cause an infection. Therefore, wipe his penis from the head to the root.

Urine

Wipe his penis from the head to the root. Pick up his penis and also wipe the underside. Fully smooth out the wrinkles in his scrotum and wipe between them.

Stool

Start wiping from places with less stool. Neatly wipe not only around his anus, but also the underside of his penis and between the wrinkles of his scrotum. Since stool can easily get into the groin, do not forget to wipe this area.
